Versalux Marine named Sub-contractor of the Year at the Australian Defence Industry Awards 2019
Versalux Marine has been awarded the inaugural Sub-contractor of the Year Award at this year’s Australian Defence Industry Awards.
The Award recognises the sub-contractor that has most effectively capitalised on market opportunities and driven demonstrable business growth while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s defence and national security capabilities through their participation in the defence industry.
For over 30 years, Versalux Marine has been delivering intelligent lighting solutions to all types of maritime and defence vessel – from tinnies and yachts through to commercial vessels and warships. Some of the larger projects have been with the Royal Australian Navy, where lighting design services have remained compliant with stringent standards and regulations, manufacturing and assembly has been undertaken in accordance with similar standards and prevailing regulations, high end and complex lighting systems have been specifically engineered, and through life support of lighting solutions has been delivered to achieve Life of Type within each fleet.
A unique point of difference is the work that Versalux is undertaking with the Alertness CRC Ltd and Monash University, to develop guidelines and potentially products that consider the human response to lighting; in particular, alertness levels and how light can affect these levels.
Military personnel, including Marines, may be at increased risk to sleep deprivation due to abnormal sleep and light exposure patterns. It is a known fact that sleep deprivation can compromise general health and wellbeing and can alter social/emotional judgments and regulation. This, in turn, can affect the safety and productivity of those affected.
Versalux is aiming to develop innovative human-focused lighting solutions that not only consider practical application, but that also consider the health of the end-users – such as those on board Navy vessels – to ensure that the lighting systems solution is not only practical, but also personable.
“We are delighted to have received such a prestigious award, particularly when considering the very strong contenders in this field,” Versalux Marine’s General Manager Maritime & Defence Mr Jorg Koch-Losekamm said. “Winning this award is testament to the knowledge, innovation and impact that we and our partners have brought and continue to bring to Defence, and the commitment we show in designing, delivering and maintaining the best in lighting systems. Success to us involves everyone. It ultimately means that all Navy personnel return home safely each day to their families and friends.”
